The stock price of BAE Systems in the UK, Europe's largest defense contractor, has virtually tripled since February 23, 2022—the day before the war in Ukraine began. The gains were well over twice as high for the Swedish fighter jet manufacturer Saab AB, while the record among the defense giants is held by the German Rheinmetall Group, whose stock price has multiplied roughly tenfold to date.
However, this booming business with death threatens to become one of the last great historical chapters enacted by Europe as a traditionally Judeo-Christian cultural continent. Every new emotional divide and every physical fratricidal war accelerates the relative decline in significance of Europe and the West as a whole. Combined with a plunging birth rate, the war in Ukraine along the western Eurasian periphery contributes to a vacuum that tends to be filled by non-European forces. Because the cultural integration and democratic socialization of immigrants is failing to keep pace with these demographic shifts, the displacement of free European civilization by autocratically shaped societies is well underway.
Even if this transformation is undoubtedly desired by many politically influential individuals and many immigrants, it represents less the result of a concerted takeover plan than the consequence of a demographic implosion and a failed geopolitics that opens the doors to chaotic global migration movements and discordant geopolitical shifts.
Karl Marx was right about few, but highly essential insights; yet to this day, the vast majority of citizens and politicians have failed to grasp precisely these points. And while his errors continue to be stubbornly propagated, we are still far from applying his valuable insights to our benefit. Among the latter is the highly topical understanding that the philosophy of any era is always that of its ruling class. The reason for its neglect in the press is simple: if this crucial rule were present in the public consciousness, citizens would see clearer than ever that an international financial elite exerts a fundamental influence on political decisions—including what the media serves up to them. Marx was wrong on many other fundamental assertions. Currently, this is also becoming apparent for the prediction (which perhaps was merely attributed to him) that the capitalists would sell the rope with which they will be hanged.
For the reality of the 21st century presents an opposite, cynical picture: at this moment, the actors of the MIC (the Military-Industrial Complex) and the financial capitalists who always profit along with them are busy selling European taxpayers the very armaments with which the continent, in an escalatory spiral, is driving itself economically, strategically, and demographically into the graveyard of history. While the profits flow into private hands, the general public bears the burden of a gigantic national debt. This consumes those very resources that are so urgently needed to manage domestic crises—from demographic revitalization to securing critical infrastructure.
